Side Project to Startup Conference in September
CubeSpace, that Portland haven for entrepreneurs and the self-employed, is having a conference to help you move your idea from concept to reality. The conference runs from Friday, September 12th through Saturday, September 13th. You can check out the website here for more information and directions to CubeSpace at 622 SE Grand Ave, Portland, OR, 97214 - or go straight to upcoming.com to RSVP. I'll be there on Friday at 7 pm to lead an interactive workshop on the creative process and how to use it to your advantage - titled, "Creative Entrepreneurship: Conception to Actualization." From the website:
In Friday's interactive talk, Bridget will share what she knows about the creative process, the blocks that entrepreneurs hit from conception through development to actualization, and provide some tips for moving through those blocks. Bridget will help you understand what parts of the creative process come naturally to you, and where you may need to get help in order to make your dream a reality!

Gender Show at 100th Monkey Studio - June

The 100th Monkey Studio has another provocative show up during June - all the artists submitted work around the theme of "Gender" and my "Negotiations (Trophy Wife)" shadowbox is a part of the show. The opening was June 6th, but you can still drop by and check it out.
Solo Art Show at CubeSpace March - June

Doing a big project like the shadowbox shrine for Mad/50 has resulted in a lot of other artwork . . . and lucky for me, I had a place to show it! My one-woman show at CubeSpace will be on display in the Agora and several of the smaller conference rooms starting in mid-March and will be on display through the end of June. All the work has been completed in the past two years and includes encaustics, fiber art, and assemblage in the themes of home, memory, and belonging. The opening is March 28th from 6-8pm! Feel free to drop by.
Appearance on AM Northwest May 29th

To see the video from my recent early morning and slightly "frumpled" appearance on AM Northwest, go here! I'm demonstrating printing with heat-molded foam stamps. There's also a step-by-step demo of this technique here on the website.

Free Collage Event March 29th

Admission to the whole thing is totally free. I love that word, don't you?Jewelry Demo on AM Northwest March 25th
I'll be on TV again and this means that you'll have access soon to another free video craft demo! I'll link to it as soon as we film - This one will be on making jewelry from old bicycle inner tubes! We'll be live on the air from 9-10 am on March 25th. This is just one of the many ideas and techniques that I cover in my Junk Drawer Jewels class starting May 7th. If you're curious about what happened last time I was on the air demonstrating memory jewelry, click here for the video link! UPDATE: And now there's video! Click over here to the AM Northwest website and take a gander.Portland International Women's Day, March 9th at Portland State University
International Women's Day is March 8, honoring the contributions of women to communities and cultures around the world. In Portland, the celebration happens on March 9th from 2 pm to 8 pm at Portland State University, on the third floor of the Smith Memorial Student Union at 1825 SW Broadway. You can learn more about the history of the International Women's Day celebration here, and more about the Portland event at http://www.piwd.org. Local tribal belly dance troupe Gypsy Caravan will be performing, as will Liv Warfield. I'll be there selling some of my hand-made jewelry, along with a lot of other wonderful vendors and organizations sharing women's health information, workshops, and resources.Fiber Re-Use-a-Palooza at CubeSpace February 9
I'll be hosting a Stuffed Misfit Stitchathon (see the Stuffed Misfit Demo
to find out just what a Stuffed Misfit is) and Suz Mayer will be
guiding folks in making hats from felted sweaters! If your New Year
closet-cleaning frenzy resulted in mismatched socks, gloves, or
unwanted sweaters - and you have $5 to spare for one of these projects,
or $10 for both - this is the place to be! Click here for more details.
Networking & Cardmaking February 11 with Dinnergrrls
If you're a woman and are looking to network and make new friends (and maybe a card or two), come by my place! I'll be hosting the Dinnergrrls February 11th potluck at my home studio, The Hearth - it's a great group of women, mostly entrepreneurs, who get together for different fun events. This pot-luck event runs 7-9 pm, but I'll keep things open a little longer for those who want to make an extra Valentine and get creative with their networking. Dinnergrrls Holiday Bazaar December 2nd, 12-4
And here's the second holiday gift show winner - the Dinnergrrls Holiday Bazaar at CubeSpace here in Portland - 622 SE Grand - on Sunday, December 2nd from 12-4 pm. What could be more subversive than a Holiday Craft Sale at a cube farm for self-employed entrepreneurs? Cool, huh? And even if you're not interested in buying Eyes Aflame encaustic art, collages, fiber art, or jewelry (check out the pillows below!) - then at least consider the possibility that you might need some Konfections, or a Bodywreath holiday wreath made out of doll bodies! Check out the full line-up of vendors here at the Dinnergrrls Holiday Bazaar website.
Secret Society Sale November 25th, 11-5
Once or twice a year, I clean out the studio and pick a place to sell off experimental art, class samples, and other miscellaneous handmade oddities - this year, the first winner is the Secret Society Sale on Sunday, November 25th from 11 am to 5 pm at the Secret Society Ballroom - 116 NE Russell, Portland, OR - right next to the Wonder Ballroom. I'll have memory jewelry, toolbox jewels, magnets, push pins, collages, switch plate covers - and who knows what else! And, to boot, I'll get to spend time with some of the other vendors like Linda Womack, Nicole Cipriano, and Kristin Gross! Curious about the other vendors? Check out the website!A Celebration of Souls Art Exhibit Opening Reception in Vancouver, WA, November 2nd
Friday, November 2nd is a busy day for art openings! I'm most likely to be at "A Celebration of Souls" at the Sixth Street Gallery
in Vancouver, WA where I'll have two pieces on display. The exhibit is
another celebration of art in the tradition of Dia de los Muertos, and
promises to be a lovely evening. Apparently, my fascination for this
celebration - a blending of indigenous Mexican beliefs with
Christianity - is coming through in my work! For more information about
La Dia de los Muertos, check out the wikipedia article, or browse this collection of articles and photos from Mexico Connect.
Dia de los Muertos Exhibit and Community Night at Linn-Benton C.C. in Albany, November 2nd
Linn-Benton Community College
in Albany, OR is holding a Dia de los Muertos art exhibit and
celebration! The exhibit (and yes, I have a piece in the exhibit - see
below!) opens October 29th and runs through November 30th in the North
Santiam Hall Gallery. The opening reception and Community Night is
November 2nd from 5:30 pm to 8 pm, and includes musical entertainment
by Fernell Lopez and a dance performance by La Fiesta Mexicana 4-H
Dance Club. If you love this traditional Mexican celebration of the
Day of the Dead as much as I do, you'll want to wander to Albany - or
find a local celebration!Women's Networking Event October 16th
If you're a woman,
have an entrepreneurial spirit, and are looking to make new friends
(and maybe a collage or two), come by my place! I'll be hosting the October 16th Women's Networking Group meeting at my home studio
- it's a great group of women, mostly entrepreneurs, who get together
at CubeSpace and in individual women's homes to share food and ideas!
The pot-luck event runs 6-8 pm, but I'll keep things open a little
longer for those who want to do a little collage and get creative with
their networking. Visit the Cubespace
website for more information (the event costs $12, but includes the
ability to promote yourself via the group's listserve), and either call
Cubespace at 503-206-3500 or e-mail Eva to register
(eva@cubespace.com). Once you register, they'll give you the address. (postscript: We had a lot of fun - keep your eye on the Cubespace website for more networking opportunities!)"Transitions" Exhibit at The 100th Monkey
I'll be showing three cigar box shrines at the October "Transitions" exhibit at The 100th Monkey, a great art making space at 110 SE 16th Ave in Portland, Oregon. The opening reception is Friday, October 5th between 6 and 9 pm, and the show runs through October 29th.
Craft Segment on AM Northwest
I'll be sharing a few tidbits from my Memory Jewelry class on AM Northwest, KATU Channel 2, between 9 and 10 am, Wednesday, September 26th. This is perfect for folks who can't make a night class like the one coming up in November, but still want to learn how to use glass pebbles to transform their favorite images into pendants, magnets, and push pins! (Postscript: It went great! See the segment here)
