Junk Drawer Jewels
This class was inspired (once again!) by my desire to integrate funky found objects into my jewelry - and by the books Hardwear by Hannah Rogge and Fabulous Jewelry from Found Objects by Marthe LeVan. The work of Susan Lenart Kazmer also played a huge role. I took some of their ideas for materials and construction, and then, of course, added my own twist! The class takes junk, found objects, and hardware store finds, then integrates stamping, beads, glues, and alcohol inks to create cool, assemblage-art-inspired effects - all of which I'll share with you in the class.
Next class starts January 17, 2008 . . . scroll down for details, including a gallery of sample projects and what people say about the class.

In this class, we’ll take junk, found objects, old jewelry parts, and hardware store finds, then integrate stamping, beads, glues, stamps, and alcohol inks to create cool, assemblage-art-inspired effects. The result? Amazing, one-of-a-kind jewelry!
You will never look at bottle caps, recycling, junk, nuts, scrap pencils, bolts, cotter pins, bicycle inner tubes and washers the same way again - and trips to yard sales and Home Depot will take on a whole new meaning. Learn to craft affordable, durable, and amazing jewelry for guys and gals from hardware and other found objects using glues and basic jewelry findings - No soldering required! Some basic jewelry making experience is helpful, but certainly not necessary.
We’ll cover drilling and basic wire manipulation, as well as the findings that can make working with found objects easier! We'll also cover different ways of embellishing and coloring your metal, plastic, and rubber “treasures.” Bring some interesting trash of your own to play with - and walk away with up to three completed projects.
