Images on Fabric: Transfer, Print, Embellish
I love working with fibers, but I never use a pattern! I'm more of a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants gal, constantly trying new techniques, taking classes, getting my hands dirty. This may be part of why I've tended to focus on surface decoration - including a five-year stint as a full-time batik and silkscreen artist with my old company Banshee Designs. In this class, you get the benefit of all those years of experience, all that experimenting, all those mistakes - and all the exploration that's still going on! Scroll down for details, including a sample project gallery and what people are saying about this class.

Two evening class
Cost $75, includes all materials
Sure, there are a lot of wonderful pre-printed fabrics out there - but what about adding your own imagery to fabric?
In this class we'll experiment with a variety of different ways to give fabric your own personal touch. We'll start by using Paintstiks with texture rubbings, masks, and stencils; then we'll add different types of paint and markers into the mix. Next, we'll play with transfers - moving color and black and white photocopies onto fabric using mediums and solvents. We'll also do printing on fabric by making our own foam and found object "stamps" and printing blocks.
We've got two days to play, so you'll be able to experiment with different ways of combining the techniques, and using the "experiments" to create a final composition. I'll bring in a sewing machine on the second day, and you'll be able to add buttons, ribbons and other elements into the mix.
All materials are provided, including fabrics. We'll be doing most of our work on unbleached cotton muslin.
